Get "In the Mood" (not Glen Miller style) but for some lively performances when you enter La in '09 ...this is some real foot stomping stuff with 3 Southern boys ~ Ray Charles, Alabama; Jerry Lee Lewis, Louisiana; and Fats Domino, Louisiana. This link gives you a 19.8mb; 7min 24sec video clip of the three You'll even see cameos of Rod Stewart and Paul Schaefer (back when Paul had just a little bit of hair).

Near the end of the clip, it will become more apparent that some ladies are waving handkerchiefs. Often time when decorated umbrellas, or any umbrellas (for that matter) aren't available for second lining, people will grab a napkin or a handkerchief (at a "party", or anywhere) and wave it over their head when participating in a "2nd line" procession. Grant you that the video hasn't anything to do with such a procession; but I suspect that the handkerchief waving (in the video) relates to the custom of the procession. Decorated umbrellas are the preferred thing to use. The only picture that I could conveniently locate of a "2nd line" strut (or dance) is this little girl. Second Line processions are associated with New Orleans funerals of a "High Ranking" fraternal brother ...or, any other beloved deceased man's funeral. I've never heard of a woman having a 2nd line procession with her funeral so I suppose the procession is a gender thing. I mentioned "party" earlier ....yes, most (or, at least, many) wedding receptions will do a 2nd line just before the end of the reception. Who knows [no promise, tho], we may 2nd line at one of our "After Parties"
Enjoy the video clip, (We're gonna have Big Fun on the Bayou)
